Sorber, Lozzano, Dancy released
February 21, 2000 (Official Press Release)
The MetroStars waived midfielders Mike Sorber and Lawrence Lozzano, and defender Jake Dancy, it was announced today by general manager Nick Sakiewicz.
"In order to rebuild the team and stay under the salary cap, it became necessary to make these moves of waiving Mike Sorber, Lawrence Lozzano, and Jake Dancy," said Sakiewicz.
Mike Sorber joined the MetroStars from Kansas City prior to the start of the 1997 season in a trade for midfielder Damian Silvera. In 97 games as a Metro, he totaled eight goals and four assists in the midfield.
Lawrence Lozzano was claimed off waivers by the MetroStars on June 16, 1999. He started 12 of 13 games, scoring one goal and assist. He scored the final Metro goal of the '99 season in a 2-1 road loss at New England in the regular-season finale.
Jake Dancy was a sixth round pick of the MetroStars in the 2000 MLS SuperDraft. He saw limited time in two games (37 minutes) during the recently concluded MLS Spring Training 2000 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
"We are sad to make these moves with these three players," said head coach Octavio Zambrano. "Unfortunately, we need to comply with salary cap rules and rebuild the team for the upcoming season."
