Media Day with Mo Johnston
March 21, 2005
MetroFanatic: Mo, there has been some controversy coming over from Scotland recently.
Mo Johnston: Yeah, there were a lot of things said in the newspapers. Again, it was all through a third party. No one had contacted me, I've been in Ecuador. I arrived home and saw what was being said about me. Said I would play one half for one team and the other half, it wasn't true.
MF: How do you think the MetroStars will do this year?
MJ: We're still building right now. Straight off the bat, I'm comfortable with what we have right now. Obviously, we have some injuries, we're still looking at players to come in. We're still in limbo at the moment. We're doing particularly well fitness wise, getting the group together. It's just been unfortunate that we have Eddie Gaven away with the national team, Mike Magee has been injured, and we have Youri, Jonny Walker has been hurt. It's been hard on the guys in the preseason, but we're looking forward to the start of the season.
MF: You mentioned new players you're waiting to come in. Any names or hints?
MJ: We're always looking. There're so many players in the last months. We our eye on two or three guys. Hopefully, if we can pick them up, it can be an exciting year.
MF: As you said, lots of players. Where are all these guys coming from?
MJ: We had some Brazilians, two Togans, two French, whatever you need, we had them. We probably looked at a good part of 70 players. It's a lot, but when you got a group together, it sometimes becomes frustrating, because you have high hopes on some of them, some of their resumes are very good, and when you see them face up...
MF: Any names of those guys?
MJ: (laughs) I don't want to embarrass them!
MF: Where is your career going?
MJ: My career is fine. I'm enjoying myself here with the MetroStars. I had the chance last year to speak with Colorado, I'm just happy to work with a great staff and a lot of good young soccer players.
