Hungover Metros lose badly to Tampa Bay
June 9, 2000 (Official Game Summary)
The Tampa Bay Mutiny defeated the MetroStars 3-0 Friday night at Giants Stadium, receiving goals from two unlikely sources. Midfielder Josh Keller and defender Joe Addo both scored their first career MLS goals in the game, with Keller scoring two goals in the match. With the win, Mutiny goalkeeper Scott Garlick recorded his 17th career shutout. Keller netted his first career MLS goal in the 11th minute of play to give the Mutiny an early lead. Midfielder Steve Ralston, patrolling the right flank, attempted to get the ball to Mamadou Diallo across the box, but fed former MetroStar midfielder Manny Lagos instead. Lagos pushed the ball out to the top of the arc, where Keller was allowed to run onto the ball. Keller's blast blazed past 'keeper Mike Ammann, finding the lower left-hand corner of the net. Keller added a second goal in the 57th minute, hammering a shot past Ammann from 25 yards out. Midfielder Carlos Valderrama took advantage of a disorganized MetroStars defense, still recovering from a Diallo run moments earlier, by pushing the ball out to Keller for the insurance goal. As a member of the Mutiny, Valderrama has recorded an assist in each of 10 career games against the MetroStars. With the assist, his 13th of the season, Valderrama extends his current point-scoring streak to six consecutive games. Lagos notched another assist against his former club in the 88th minute, beating Mike Petke to feed defener Joe Addo at the top of the penalty area. Addo's left-footed shot beat Ammann for the Ghanaian defender's first MLS goal.
Lineup: Ammann, Jolley, Petke, Corrales, Hernandez, Chung, Walsh, Villegas, Myers, Mathis, Valencia. Subs: Ramos, Comas, Dooley.
