Following the results from Saturday night's 2-1 victory over the Galaxy, the MetroStars reserves team earned a convincing 3-0 victory over the Galaxy reserves. Returning to their home stadium after a two-game hiatus, the Metros were hardly troubled on the defensive end.

The MetroStars started the game with newly signed goalkeeper Tony Meola between the posts. Meola was given the captain's arm band and was very vocal throughout the entire first half, giving orders to his younger teammates.

From the opening whistle, the MetroStars wasted little time putting pressure on the Galaxy goal. The game saw its first and only yellow card in the 30th minute when Galaxy defender Ryan Shaw was booked for a reckless foul. After the foul, the Galaxy made an early substitution, taking off Alan Gordon and bringing on Steve Gonzales.

Following the substitution, the MetroStars took the free-kick, which was crossed to the far post and headed back to Eric Quill. Quill took the ball down beautifully and shot hard at goal to only have it blocked by a Galaxy defender. Quill was quick to react again and this time put the rebound into the net to put the MetroStars up 1-0.

The second half started with captain Meola being replaced by Stevenson. Meola's arm band was given to his fellow former U.S. national team player, defender Ryan Suarez. The Metros also brought on Ramon Bailey, taking out Carlos Mendes. This move prompted coach Mo Johnston to move Jason Hernandez into a defensive role and into midfield. In the 54th minute the Metros made their third change of the game, bringing on Mark Pedreiras for goal scorer Quill.

Seven minutes later, forward Jerrod Laventure received a beautiful through-ball from Pedreiras and put it past the L.A. goalkeeper to make the score 2-0.

Shortly after the MetroStars second goal, forward Robens Jerome came on to replace forward Abbe Ibrahim. It did not take long for Jerome to leave his mark, as just minutes later he made it 3-0 when he took an excellent chip pass from Suarez. Suarez's pass placed a beautiful shot over the goalkeeper.

The 3-0 win was the reserve team's second straight shutout, but more importantly their second win in a row.
