Metros on verge of three major trades
January 18, 2006
MetroFanatic has learned of three pending trades, all in various stages of development. It looks like the MetroStars are ready to unload their best two players of the Bob Bradley era, as well as one of the most dangerous strikers in MLS history.
First of all, the Metros are talking to Columbus about trading Eddie Gaven for Edson Buddle. This comes on the heels of Gaven trade talk from a month ago, which Mo Johnston called "fabricated"; there is nothing fabricated about it this time. In return for one of the best young talents in US soccer, the Metros would get 24-year-old Buddle, who has scored his share of goals, but also missed some time due to substance abuse problems. It will also give the Crew another ex-Metro, to join Jonny Walker, John Wolyniec, and Tim Ward.
Secondly, the Metros are talking to Chivas USA about trading Ante Razov for a portion of an allocation, worth about 60K. Danilo da Silva could also be involved in the deal, or be a part of a separate trade. Razov saw his role greatly reduced after Johnston took over for Bradley; if this trade goes through, he will be reunited with his favorite coach.
Finally, Amado Guevara to Dallas for Eddie Johnson; of the three, this is the one deal farthest away from completion. Guevara has stated that he wants to play for Dallas, and Johnson has been on the block, as Dallas has major salary cap issues. However, obtaining Guevara will not help alleviate that.
Stay tuned.
