Chivas game canceled; Metros awarded 2:0 win

Citing "safety concerns" to mask their lack of gonads, the Mexican club Chivas has cancelled their trip for to New Jersey for the Mecronorte Cup match. The game will be awarded 2:0 to the MetroStars. Although this "result" puts the Metros in a first-place tie in their group, the act of the Mexican club is inexcusable. Everyone knows that Merconorte is not exactly the crown jewel of international club competition, but not showing up shows what an unprofessional organization a certain Mexican so-called-club is.

The Copa Merconorte game scheduled for tomorrow night between the MetroStars and Mexican club Chivas of Guadalajara at Giants Stadium has been canceled, after Chivas players and coaches informed the MetroStars they would not travel to the New York area to play.
According to CONMEBOL's rules regarding tournament competition, the refusal to appear means the MetroStars will claim a 2-0 forfeit victory in Copa Merconorte Group B action, tying them with Colombia's Millonarios at 2-1 (6 points), who are scheduled to play the MetroStars on Wednesday, October 31 at Giants Stadium at 8 p.m. ET.
Fans who purchased tickets for the Chivas game can claim their refunds at the place of ticket purchase.
"This is an incredibly unfortunate decision by Chivas," said MetroStars general manager Nick Sakiewicz. "Not only do we find their fears unfounded, but we also find them a bit dubious, in light of their key Mexican league game coming up this weekend (against Mexican club America). It's even more unfortunate that Chivas has now disappointed the sizable Mexican fan base in our area."
