RBNY talking to Edmundo?
April 11, 2007
No, not Worst Metro Ever, Edmundo Rodriguez, but rather Brazilian striker Edmundo Alves de Souza Neto, also known as "The Animal". According to Brazilian press, RBNY is in talks with the Palmeiras forward. With the MLS transfer window closing this Sunday, this could be a last-ditch attempt to land a forward... or just another in the long line of rumors to end up in a trash bin.
Amazingly, Edmundo has switched clubs ten times in the last seven years and has had 17 different playing stints overall, including four with his original club, Vasco da Gama. He has also played in Italy for Fiorentina and Napoli, and in Japan. This year, Edmundo is leading his club, Palmeiras, in scoring. He has scored 12 goals in 36 caps for Brazil and was a part of the 1998 World Cup squad that lost in the final to France.
Edmundo is known for his off-the-field adventures as well. In 1994, he attacked three players on the opposing team's bench during a game, kicking one of them in the groin. A year later, Edmundo was sentenced to 4 1/2 years in jail after being accused of vehicular homicide that killed three people; he was released on appeal. In 1999, he was accused of getting a chimpanzee drunk. "The Animal" indeed.
