The Kansas City Wizards and New York Red Bulls Reserve squads played a hard-fought match Sunday morning at the Sprint World Headquarters in Overland Park, Kansas that resulted in a 2-1 Kansas City win and the first loss of 2007 for the Red Bulls Reserves.

Neither team could find a goal in the opening half as play flowed quickly from end to end. Both goalkeepers were called upon numerous times in the opening 45 minutes to keep the game scoreless.

Early in the second half, Yura Movsisyan took on three players near the left corner of the penalty area and created enough space to fire on goal in the 48th minute. His shot beat Danny Cepero but clanged off the crossbar. Wizards midfielder Lance Watson was in the correct place, however, to redirect the ball with his shoulder into the open net for his second goal of the reserve campaign and a 1-0 Wizards lead.

Kansas City forward Ryan Pore played provider in the 62nd minute, intercepting a New York clearance 25 yards from goal and laying the ball off to his left for Movsisyan. Movsisyan carried the ball in behind the defense and fired a left-footed shot from 11 yards out that beat Cepero inside the near post for a 2-0 Kansas City lead.

New York drew one back in the 79th minute thanks to great individual effort from guest player Chris Karcz. Karcz collected a ball 30 yards from goal and held off a Wizards defender, eventually firing from the top of the penalty area past Kronberg inside the near post to bring the Red Bulls within a goal.
