Dunivant - Goldthwaite trade in the works
June 25, 2007
After a week where boredom reached previously unheard of proportions, we might start this one with a bang, as a rumor out of a Toronto practice has trickled through the internet and is now being reported by the very credible BigAppleSoccer. According to the rumor, or "more than a rumor", as BAS says, Metro would send Todd Dunivant up north for Kevin Goldthwaite in a swap of left backs. Interestingly, Goldthwaite was just recently acquired by former Metro coach Mo Johnson, and would become the latest in a string of players to be acquired and then sent packing by the trigger-happy Scotsman. Several Toronto outlets are reporting the trade as a done deal.
The move, if true, would clear about 70K in salary cap space for RBNY. At this point, it is not known if there are other assets on either of the sides of the deal. Dunivant played the entire 90 in Metro's first seven league games, before being sidelined by an injury. The team has been struggling to find a replacement since, and it looks like now, when he is able to return, the replacement might be acquired on a more permanent basis, with Dunivant himself as the cost.
Dunivant was acquired by Metro in June of last year, after Johnston was fired, but it was Mo who initiated trade talks with LA, before his departure.
