Metros get rid of Valencia, Alvarez, Myers, Gilmar
January 12, 2002
According to numerous sources, the MetroStars declined their option on the contracts of Adolfo Valencia, Roy Myers, Pedro Alvarez. The move accomplishes a number of things: gets rid of three foreign players, giving us room for one more (with Diego Serna on board and Rodrigo Faria's status unclear) and clears salary cap room to fit Serna, Marcelo Balboa, and perhaps another acquisition, rumored to be ex-England international Des Walker.
Adolfo, you broke all our scoring records in 2000 but turned into Eduardo Hurtado in 2001. Roy, you had three stints with us, but don't bet on four. Pedro, we're still waiting for our socks to get knocked off.
Myers' late-season replacement Gilmar will also not return.
