Joe Vide taken in expansion draft
November 21, 2007 (Official Press Release)
New York Red Bulls midfielder Joe Vide was selected by the San Jose Earthquakes in the 2007 MLS Expansion Draft today. Vide has been with New York for two seasons and was acquired by the club via the 2006 Supplemental Draft, in which he was the fifth overall pick.
The former University of Virginia standout enjoyed a breakout year with the Red Bulls in 2007, earning a career-high 16 appearances and 13 starts. He also made his playoff debut against the New England Revolution on November 3, playing 77 minutes. In 2006, Vide featured in seven games, making two starts.
Vide was one of 16 players left unprotected by the Red Bulls. Each team was allowed to protect 11 players from their roster. San Jose, the newest team in MLS set to begin play in 2008, was allowed to select 10 players today, but could only choose one from each team's unprotected list.
