Oscar Echeverry shelved for the year
July 29, 2008
Oscar Echeverry has been put on the season-ending Injured Reserve list, reports the New York Post. The Colombian striker played in nine matches, starting seven, and did not tally a goal or an assist. Currently, he is the leading contender on MetroFanatic's Bum of the Year watch.
The ending of Echeverry's season will open a senior roster slot, meaning Metro will have another one open after signing Gabriel Cichero, since, according to tbe Post, Diego Jimenez will be signed to a developmental deal. It also leaves Metro with just two senior-rostered forwards on the roster.
Official Press Release:
Red Bull New York announced today that forward Oscar Echeverry will undergo season-ending surgery to repair an osteochondral lesion in his right knee. Echeverry, who had a scan on his knee last week, will be out for six months and will be placed on the team's Season Ending Injury List.
