Two Boca youth players on trial
March 3, 2009
Two youngsters from the Boca Juniors youth system are on trial with Metro, and played for them in a recent preseason match in Argentina. Sounds familiar?
"We're really excited that we will be receiving two young talented players from Boca Juniors," said MetroStars President and General Manager Nick Sakiewicz. "This loan marks the first step in what is going to be a broad relationship with the Boca Juniors club and the MetroStars for many years to come. We are very honored that we are part of a relationship with Boca Juniors that is going to produce many opportunities like this."
Oops... that was six years ago. The players Nick was talking about? Juan Forchetti and Jose Galvan, who accounted for zilch during their one-year Metro stay. Oh well. Nice to see that "broad relationship" finally coming through, right?
The two current Boca youth players in question are 20-year-old defender Nicolas Villafane and 19-year-old defender Gabriel Quirulef. Both played for Metro in their 1:1 tie with Argentinos Juniors, Villafane starting the match and Quirulef coming on in the second half.
