Metro draws W Connection in CONCACAF qualifiction
June 11, 2009
Metro, the 2008 MLS Western Conference Champions, will play W Connection of Trinidad and Tobago in a home-and-home series to qualify for the group stages of the CONCACAF Champions League. W Connection finished second in their league last year and qualified by winning the Caribbean Football Union Club Championship.
The legs will take place July 28-30 and August 4-6. Both are midweek dates; due to a scheduling quirk, Metro actually has no MLS games in the surrounding two-week span.
If Metro were to beat the Connection, they will play in Group D, with Mexico's UNAM Pumas, Comunicaciones or Municipal of Guatemala, and the winner of the Liberia of Costa Rica and Real Espana of Honduras home-and-home.
Metro met W Connection once before, in a 2005 preseason match. Sergio Galvan Rey scored the lone goal of the game for the MetroStars.
