Top allocation spot sold to Philly
January 29, 2010

So much for that #1 allocation slot. RBNY dumped the slot to Philadelphia for allocation money and their own slot, #6 in the order. Philly will use the top slot to sign Michael Orozco, moving Metro up to #5.

Earlier this year, Philly traded their then-#1 slot to DC for a player, a first round draft pick, and allocation money. So this better be a lot of money Metro is getting, because this is one move that they can dearly pay for down the line. They had all the power in the MLS allocation process; they are behind four other teams now. And if we see quality Americans coming to MLS later this year, once again Metro will likely be shut out.

So Philly parlayed their #1 slot into two starters (Fred and Orozco) and a top prospect. RBNY got some allocation money. So that's nice.
