Viking army grows with Jan Halvor Halvorsen?
October 19, 2010
According to Norway's TA, manager Jan Halvor Halvorsen is "ready" to be Hans Backe's new assistant at RBNY. According to Telen, Halvorsen "has accepted the coaching job".
Halvorsen managed IK Start from 1999 to 2002, the end of his stay intersecting with Erik Soler's co-ownership of the club. He was most recently in charge of Notodden FK, spending four seasons with the modest club and helping it get promoted to the second highest division in Norway. One of the players he coached at the club was former Metro Fabian Taylor, who always wanted to play in Europe because "that's where the bucks is". Halvorsen has also coached Sogndal and Byasen IL, as well as Sweden's GIF Sundsvall.
As a player, Halvorsen was a teammate of Soler at SK Brann in the 1980s. He won five caps for Norway.
What this means to the future of current top assistant Richie Williams is not clear.
