When Brian Nielsen was signed last year, the method of his acquisition was not clear. It was officially reported as a loan from his Danish club Velje. But European reports said that he was actually being loaned to Red Bull Salzburg... or perhaps signed by Salzburg and loaned out to New York.

Well, we got some clarity now. Nielsen's agent Kim Wacker told Tipsbladet.dk that Nielsen signed a two-year contract (through 2012) with... the company of Red Bull. He will play in New York in 2011 and could possibly move to Salzburg in 2012.

Nielsen is currently in Oslo, with an expert examining his knee. Erik Soler told Tipsbladet that he expects the Danish winger to be ready in January. Nielsen played in only two league matches last year before being shelved by various injuries.
