10 Years of MetroFanatic
February 4, 2011
On February 4th, 2001, we posted our first story: a press release detailing the trade of Mike Ammann to DC Scum for Richie Williams. In the ten years since then, some things have changed (the team's name, for instance), while some stayed the same (the team's inability to win a championship).
But through these ten years, MetroFanatic.com has persevered. Through good years and bad, we keep going -- for our love of this team. And it wouldn't be possible without all the support from the people who help out (there are too many to name) and from those who keep reading.
To commemorate this anniversary, we announce the MetroFanatic Hall of Fame. Each year on this date, we will select another member -- or members -- to be honored. The only requirement for players is that they have to be retired from soccer. Oh, and doing something positive during their Metro career would help.
And it is the Metro career and only their Metro career that we care about -- it wouldn't matter if they were World Player of the Year or a lowly draft pick. All that matters is what they did in their time with this franchise.
So please welcome our inaugural class: Roberto Donadoni, Clint Mathis, Mike Petke, Giovanni Savarese, and John Wolyniec. And let's hope that in the following ten years, we'll finally break that championship drought.
And once again, thanks to everyone who keeps reading.
