It's not hard to find words to describe Metro's performance today. Unfortunately, all those words are not exactly complimentary. Deplorable? Let's start with that. Today, a deplorable Metro team was taken to the cleaners at home by a supposed inferior Philly squad. The final score was 2:0, but it could have been much worse. How about that up-tempo, high pressure, winning soccer!

During the first half, it seemed that if 2:0 was to be the final scoreline, Metro was destined to be on top. The lone change from last week's game was the forced insertion of Roy Miller at central defense for the injured Damien Perrinelle. But Metro didn't need their defense; in the opening 45, they dominated in every area of the field and were unlucky not to score. Woodwork was hit twice, first by Felipe. Sacha Kljestan found him in the box, and the Brazilian's shot rang off the bottom of the left post. Then, excellent work by Mike Grella to keep the ball from going out on the endline ended with a shot that rang off the far right upright.

And then the second half kicked off... and Metro quickly ran out of answers. Two Philly goals, both on counterattacks, in the 57nd and 62nd, immediately put the game out of reach. First, Karl Ouimette just kept Vincent Nogueira onside, and the Worm flicked the ball in. Then, C.J. Sapong ran past Miller, and easily converted.

And Metro... nothing. Absolutely nothing. You would think that down two, all caution would be thrown out of the window, but no. Kljestan tried to do everything, but just had no support. Philly's fourth-string goalkeeper had to make just one tough save, on a reaction redirect by Bradley Wright-Phillips. Out of answers, Marsch went to the bench for the subs of Dane Richards and Anatole Abang, which were as obvious as they were ineffective.

Is this just a minor setback, or has this team been exposed as a sheep in wolf's clothing? We'll find out soon enough. We just need to get the taste of this deplorable game out of our mouth.

Lineup: Robles, Lawrence, Miller, Ouimette, Duvall, McCarty, Martins, Kljestan, Grella, Sam, Wright-Phillips. Subs: Lade, Richards, Abang.
