New York Red Bulls II emerged victorious over Orlando City B at Orlando City Stadium by a 6-5 scoreline Saturday night. The win pushed NYRB II back into playoff positioning heading into next weekend's regular season finale at Rochester.
Stefano Bonomo scored his first of three goals on the night in the third minute off an Ethan Kutler long ball over the top of the Orlando defense. Nine minutes later, Florian Valot doubled NYRB II's lead scoring a screamer from 30 yards out with a left-footed strike past Carl Edwards.
Orlando grabbed a goal back four minutes later off a counterattack to bring their deficit back to one.
Four minutes before halftime, Bonomo notched his second goal blasting a volley off a Junior Flemmings shot into the upper left corner of the goal. Not wasting any time, Bonomo finished his hat trick in the 51st minute for his third goal on the night and team-leading tenth on the year to give NYRB II a 4-1 lead.
Arun Basuljevic tallied a goal of his own in the 55th minute, one-timing a cross from David Najem for his second goal of the season.
Orlando continued to press numbers forward scoring consecutive goals in the 67th and 77th minutes to draw within two as both teams entered the final ten minutes.
NYRB II created a bit of breathing room in the 87th minute as Valot was fouled in the penalty area and stepped up to the spot to put one away, for a brace on the night and eighth of the season, to give New York a 6-3 lead heading into extra time.
Orlando struck twice in extra time with the second coming as NYRB II was down a man due to a David Abidor red card with the game ending, 6-5.
