Daniel Royer signed to new deal
April 26, 2018 (Official Press Release)

The New York Red Bulls have signed Austrian midfielder Daniel Royer to a new multi-year MLS contract, the club announced today. Royer signs a deal to stay in New York after a breakout 2017 campaign.

"We are pleased to reach an agreement with Danny to extend his time in New York," said Red Bulls Sporting Director Denis Hamlett. "Danny fits both our style of play and club culture, and we look forward to him contributing to our continued success."

Royer, 27, had a strong 2017 season with the Red Bulls, tallying 12 goals and three assists in 26 games played. The Austrian midfielder caught fire during the month of July, rattling off six league goals over a four-match span to earn MLS Player of the Week and Player of the Month honors. Royer produced at least one point in 13 of the 26 league matches and in all three MLS playoff games last year.

"Danny is an integral part of our team, and a player that we think will continue to grow and excel in this league," said Red Bulls Head Coach Jesse Marsch. "He is gifted around the goal and has the qualities and mindset that are required to play our style on both sides of the ball."

Royer has been able to produce offensively across all competitions for New York. In 50 matches played in a Red Bulls shirt, he has tallied 17 goals (13 league, two MLS Cup playoff, one U.S. Open Cup and one Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League). Royer's 17 goals include four game-winning goals in league play, a game-winner against New York City FC in the Open Cup and the go-ahead goal on the road against C.D. Olimpia to earn a crucial 1-1 tie in the SCCL Round of 16.

"It's a great feeling," said Royer. "It's a great club. I like the philosophy, I like the team, I like the staff. I like everything here. I'm happy that I re-signed."
