A missed penalty kick by Rodrigo Faria and lack of creativity in the final third of the field saw the MetroStars lose to Dallas, 2:0. The Metros, coming in with two straight road shutouts, saw their counter-attacking strategy misfiring, as they could not convert on the chances and Dallas broke through for a goal late in the first half.

The Metros' first good chance came in just the second minute, as Brad Davis found himself one-on-one with Matt Jordan, with the Dallas goalie saving the shot. After that, Dallas took over, and scored in the 38th minute, after Jason Kreis knocked a ball back to Bobby Rhine, who had a clear shot at the net.

Although most of the Metros attackers stalled for a large portion of the game, it was Rodrigo Faria who will wear the goat horns, missing a penalty kick after Ted Chronopoulos was taken down in the box early in the second half. Faria's weak shot easily saved by Jordan. Brad Davis then hit a goalpost on a free kick, and although the Metros started to come alive late in the second, Dallas doubled the lead in the 83rd minute. After a clear foul on Chad Deering was not called, the Burn took over possession with Kreis beating Tim Howard off the right goalpost for the final margin.

Lineup: Howard, Chronopoulos, Petke, Jolley, Ziadie, Moore, Paule, Davis, Lisi, Mathis, Faria. Subs: Williams, Forko, Diop.
