Media Day with Omir Fernandez
February 25, 2019

MetroFanatic: Omir, why sign with the team after your sophomore year?
Omir Fernandez: Becoming a professional athlete was always a dream of mine. The time was right, the deal was right. It was prefect timing, I guess, and God's plan. It was an opportunity I couldn't pass up.

MF: You are a little brash... or cocky? Is that the right word?
OF: I kinda just say, not cocky, enjoying what he loves to do. Expressing what I love to do.

MF: Expressive, that's a better word.
OF: I like to express myself, enjoy what I love to do.

MF: Did you expect to get playing time last week?
OF: Being with the first team, you never know. As a young player, I didn't know it would happen, but I'm very grateful and glad that I actually did it.

MF: You joined in preseason two years ago and scored a preseason goal...
OF: Yes.

MF: How did that help with the integration?
OF: That was one of the greatest parts about the organization, letting the young guys train with the players and in preseason. That opportunity, honestly, prepared me more for our preseason and showed me what it was about and what kind of level I was getting myself into and prepared me for this season so I would know where I was.

MF: Did you consider signing out of high school?
OF: The original plan was to sign as soon as possible, it's been a dream of mine to do. But going to college was a great experience for me, I was able to play at a high level as well, and show myself more, and expose myself more to the Red Bulls, and I'm glad that I went there.

MF: Long term, what are your goals?
OF: My dream is to play at the highest level, to play at the World Cup for my country, develop as a player and improve, and win titles.
