Early dominance can't top Whitecaps, 2:2

Metro came out firing out of the gate. They overwhelmed Vancouver in every area of the field, dominated possession, attacked with fluidity. Unfortunately, that failed to earn them a lead, and a more even second half followed. By the time the dust settled, the game ended with a 2:2 draw.

With three matches in seven days, squad rotation was the name of the game for Chris Armas, as he made seven changes from the side that topped Atlanta.

Metro dominated from the opening whistle with a relentless press that Vancouver couldn't break... until they did, half an hour in, went the other way, with Scott Sutter finishing after an unfortunate bounce.

Metro didn't stop pushing, as soon after a Kaku flick was barely cleared off the line. Moments later, a corner kick led to an Amro Tarek header that was touched by Brian White's head and went into the net. White's goal ended a streak of nine, each scored by a different player.

Right after the half, ex-Metro Felipe almost put his team ahead, but Luis Robles' fingertips barely pushed his shot off the post. Then, in the 55th, a cross from White was redirected by Andy Rose to put Metro up 2:1.

By then, Metro's dominance evaporated. Vancouver evened it from the spot six minutes later, after VAR determined that Sean Nealis handled the ball in the box. (It was the correct call.) The play was fairly even from that point on, with Metro's best chance coming when Tom Barlow found Daniel Royer alone in the center of the box. The Austrian spun around and sent a shot that sailed high.

It all looked to end even, when, four minutes into injury time, Vancouver earned a breakaway that looked destined to end in a goal. With no defenders to bail him out, Robles made a magnificent save to preserve the point.

So much for dominance.

Lineup: Robles, Duncan, Tarek, Nealis, Lade, Casseres, Muyl, Fernandez, Etienne, Romero Gamarra, White. Subs: Davis, Royer, Barlow.
