March 6, 2020 (Official Press Release)
New York Red Bulls have signed midfielder Deri Corfe to a USL Championship contract, the club announced today.
Corfe, 22, started his collegiate career at the University of Rio Grande, where he helped lead his team to the national finals and was named an All-Conference selection. He transferred to Wright State University before his junior season and recorded 13 goals and eight assists in his senior year.
The Chester, United Kingdom native was named to the USCA All-North Region and Horizon League Conference first teams. He led Wright State to the second round of the 2020 NCAA College Cup.
"Deri has been very impressive since joining us for preseason," Head Coach John Wolyniec said. "We will continue to push him, but we are really excited about his mix of technique, strength and cleverness, which makes his final plays very dangerous."
Corfe played for the Ocean City Nor'easters in USL League Two, where he was named the 2019 USL League Two Most Valuable Player. He tallied 14 goals and added three assists to lead Ocean City to a second-place finish in the Mid-Atlantic Division. He spent six years in the Manchester City Academy in the United Kingdom.
Corfe was selected by the Red Bulls with the 41st overall pick in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft. Corfe participated in the first team's preseason camp in Bradenton, Florida and then joined NYRB II for camp in Richmond, Virginia.
