Tijuana revealed to be Kaku's suitor
December 28, 2020
Alejandro Romero Gamarra's Mexican suitor has been revealed to be Tijuana. According to Periodico AM, Xolos has made a $3 million offer, with $500,000 in incentives and 20% of the sale fee. AM reports that Kaku's contract with RBNY runs out at the end of the year, but the club has the option to extend it two more years in order to pick up the transfer fee.
According to MLS rules and regulations, no amount of the transfer fee can be used as allocation money unless it exceeds the purchase price, which, in Kaku's case, was north of $7 million. So, as far as roster-building is concerned, the transfer fee to be received seems rather irrelevant. (Although RBNY could definitely use it on other resources.)
