The MetroStars dropped a 2-0 result to the Chicago Fire in a scrimmage today at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. MetroStars Head Coach Bob Bradley continues to assemble the roster and lineup for the upcoming 2003 MLS season. The game featured MetroStars' all-time leading scorer Giovanni Savarese in the lineup as he attempts to make the squad.

The Fire struck quickly in the first minute of the game. The MetroStars gave up a freekick on the right side of the box. Fire midfielder DaMarcus Beasley sent a pass to Evan Whitfield as he raced into the box and went in one-on-one with Metros 'keeper Tim Howard. The Fire midfielder slotted a shot past Howard to put the Fire up 1-0 immediately.

In the 17th minute, the Fire scored again to double its lead to 2-0. Beasley was taken down by Howard, as he raced into the box and the referee immediately called for a penalty kick. Beasley stepped up and blasted a shot to the right corner just past the outstretched arm of a diving Howard and into the back of the net.

The game marks the MetroStars' first loss in preseason after downing the U.S. Under-17 squad 4-0 on Thursday. Bradley also faced his former team for the first time, in the contest.
