Eleven minutes left in the game, DC 2, Metro 0, but the deficit seems much more than two goals, so lifeless have the Metros been so far. But first Clint Mathis, then Rodrigo Faria, and then Petter Villegas in the 90th minute all struck to give the Metros an incredible magnificent victory.
Jaime Moreno put DC on top in the 33rd minute when he scored a PK after a phantom hand ball on Steve Jolley. He then doubled the lead in the 52nd, with the Metros at this point looking complete and totally outclassed.
But in the 79th minute, Mathis scored his fifth goal in three games off a scramble that started with a Tab Ramos free kick. With Adolfo Valencia now in the game, the Metros started to look more and more dangerous. In the 88th minute, Rodrigo Faria blasted his first Metro goal off the left goalpost and past Mike Ammann.
But this was not the end. Two minutes later, the much-maligned Petter Villegas took the ball down the right side, picked it up after Alex Comas failed to receive the pass, and then put it past Ammann to give the Metros a tremendous win. Unbelievable. Amazing. Wonderful.
Oh, and by the way, with this Miracle at East Rutherford it is fitting to say that Mike Ammann is now the enemy. And Tim Howard is our #1 now. The King is dead. Long live the King!
Lineup: Howard, Perez, Petke, Jolley, Chung, Alvarez, Williams, Villegas, Ramos, Mathis, Comas. Subs: Faria, Valencia, Shak.
