Eddie Pope scored his first two goals for the Metros to lead them to a two-goal comeback in the Open Cup Fourth Round, beating Columbus 4:3. Steve Jolley also scored, adding to an own goal by Crew's Brian Maisonneuve.
Edson Buddle struck twice for Columbus, the first coming in the 10th minute and a second just seconds later. Maisonneuve redirected a Richie Williams cross into his own net to bring the Metros within one in the 24th.
The Columbus midfielder then scored one for his own team, putting the MetroStars in a 3:1 hole just two minutes before the break. But the second half saw first Jolley scoring off a Williams cross in the 54th, then the Crew's Brian West was shown the red card in the 68th.
Then Pope played hero, first redirecting a John Wolyniec pass in the 77th. The incredible comeback concluded with four minutes left in the game as Pope headed in an Amado Guevara cross to give the Metros their first lead of the game. The MetroStars now move to the Open Cup Quarterfinals, where they'll play New England at Yurcak Field at Rutgers.
