The weekday matinee experiment finally came, as the MetroStars tied the Wizards in the blistering heat, 0:0. Kansas City's Jimmy Conrad collapsed from heatstroke in the first overtime session, a horrible byproduct of playing 100 minutes of soccer under a scorching summer sun.

Aware of the heat, the MetroStars wore their white road jerseys, but that was not enough to inject some life into them. With Amado Guevara returning from suspension, Clint Mathis moved back to the top and had the best chance -- the Metros' only good chance -- of the first half, hitting a free kick off crossbar-goalpost corner.

The insertion of John Wolyniec at the half once again injected some life into the Metros, but on this slow afternoon, that was all they got. A couple of his runs went for naught as regulation ended tied. On the other end, Jonny Walker stood tall, grabbing every ball in sight, earning his first MLS regular season shutout.

With Conrad collapsing and the Wizards reduced to ten men, Kansas City started to stall, and overtime ended without much happening. The game ended without scoring, and so hopefully ends the weekday matinee experiment.

Lineup: Walker, Bartolomeu, Pope, Jolley, Ziadie, Clark, Williams, Lisi, Guevara, Magee, Mathis. Subs: Wolyniec, DiGiamarino, Galvan.
