Metro drafts Steve Shak first overall

With the first overall pick of the 2000 SuperDraft, the MetroStars drafted defender Steve Shak from UCLA. Shak was familiar to Octavio Zambrano from youth soccer.
In the fourth round, the MetroStars drafted midfielder Daniel Alvarez from Furman (37th overall) and defender Orlando Perez from Orange County of the A-League (48th overall).
Forward Colby Jackson from Cal State Fullerton was taken in the fifth round (49th overall). Former Kansas City defender Jake Dancy was taken in the sixth round (61st overall).
