Guevara's mastery beats Kansas City, 2:1

Amado Guevara scored from a set piece in his fourth straight game, this time a beautiful free kick, to extend the Metros' league unbeaten streak to four, topping Kansas City 2:1. Jonny Walker saved the Wizards' second penalty kick of the night to keep the game tied and set up Guevara's heroics.
On the heels of his 100th career win, Bob Bradley kept the lineup exactly the same as in the win over the Chicago. And the continuing paid off, as the Metros started the game crisp, dominating the play, and creating dangerous chances. In the 23rd minute, John Wolyniec run around a Wizards defender in the box, and, falling down, passed the ball back to the onrushing Cornell Glen, who blasted it into the far back post of the Wizard net, giving the Metros a 1:0 lead. The goal was Glen's fourth of the year.
Kansas City tied the game on a Chris Klein penalty kick in the 37th minute after Eddie Pope pulled Davy Arnaud's shirt in the box. Klein shot to his right, and the ball went off Walker's hands into the net. Just three minutes later, Jonny made a terrific save on a Shavar Thomas shot off a corner kick to keep the game tied.
In the 52nd minute, the Wizards got awarded their second penalty kick of the game, after Tenywa Bonseu was judged to obstruct Francisco Gomez. This time, Klein went down the middle towards his left, and Walker was up to the task, blocking the shot.
And then it became Guevara time once again. In the 66th minute, Glen was hacked down on the left edge the box, Amado stepping up to take the direct free kick. The ball sailed over the Wizard fall, perfectly placed into the upper right corner of the net. Fat Tony Meola did not even move.
And that was it, but Guevara continues to amaze game after game. Nine goals this year, leadership on the field, and now the addition of more defensive responsibilities seem to make him even a better, more complete player. We were looking for a player like this for eight years, and now we have him. Let's hope he can lead us to the promised land.
