Metros looking to sign four young players
March 15, 2005
As reported by the Herald News and BigAppleSoccer and confirmed by MetroFanatic, the MetroStars are looking to sign a number of young players, three of them trialists from recent Florida and Ecuador stints.
Carlos Mendes, 24, an American defender who last played for the Rochester Rhinos. He was the lone trialist from Florida to also travel to Ecuador and saw a lot of playing time this preseason. He is likely being looked at for the right back spot vacated by Craig Ziadie and possibly Tenywa Bonseu.
Abbe Ibrahim, 18, a Togolese trialist striker who spent some time with the team in Florida, about whom not much is known.
Ramon Bailey, 21, a Jamaican youth international with a green card, who can play up front or in the midfield, which he did with the Metros in Ecuador. He played locally in the Bronx and then at Mercer County Community College.
Sammy Ochoa, 18, a Mexican-born US Under-20 international forward, currently on the books of Mexico's Tecos. His brother Jesus plays for Chivas USA. Ochoa, the only one of the four whose deal is not imminent, will likely be a discovery player.
