Drought continues as Metros, Quakes shoot blanks
June 16, 2001
Playing their first home game in a month, the Metros failed to come up with a win, tying the San Jose Earthquakes, 0:0. The tie is the Metros fifth straight game without a win as the team seems headed into a tailspin with another five consecutive road games staring right at them.
The Metros controlled most of the play, but once again could not get a ball past Joe Cannon, who has shutout the Metros in four straight games. Tim Howard was once again brilliant in net, preserving the scoreless tie.
Two milestones were set in the game; Mike Petke broke Tony Meola's record for most minutes played as a Metro (regular season). Also, Cordt Weinstein became the 100th player to suit play for the MetroStars in an MLS game.
Daniel Hernandez made his first appearance since game 2 of the season late in the second half.
Lineup: Howard, Perez, Petke, Jolley, Chung, Semioli, Williams, Alvarez, Ramos, Faria, Valencia. Subs: Comas, Weinstein, Hernandez.
