MetroStars call up three players
June 29, 2001 (Official Press Release)
The MetroStars today called up three players from the A-League Long Island Rough Riders for their game against the Chicago Fire Saturday night at Soldier Field.
Defenders Mersim Beskovic and Fausto Klinger, along with forward Michael Butler, will all be in uniform for the game, the first of two meetings this season between the MetroStars and Fire.
This is the fifth call-up to the MetroStars this season for Beskovic. The 22-year-old Bronx, NY product has played in two games for the team, seeing limited action in wins over Kansas City on May 2 and Dallas on April 28.
Fausto Klinger, 21, the older brother of injured MetroStars forward Martin Klinger, traveled with the MetroStars during the TAP Air Portugal Preseason Tour in February, and saw action in games against Portuguese club Benfica and Icelandic club Fylkir.
Butler, 24, from Kearny, NJ, was a first round selection by Columbus in the 1999 MLS Draft out of UMass-Amherst. Butler, who has one goal in five games with Long Island this season, has also played for the A-League Hershey Wildcats and Pittsburgh Riverhounds during his career.
