On a muggy and hot night that seemed more like a Chivas home game, the Metros found themselves down by two goals in the first half. But in the second, they got a lucky break on a PK call and a spectacular shot from a free kick play from Amado Guevara to steal a point from the Los Angeles Goats.
Having gone up 1-0 early in the game with Eddie Gaven being taken down in the box and Guevara converting the subsequent PK, the Metro defense completely went to sleep as Francisco Palencia and Juan Pablo Garcia combined to score three goals before the break.
After the break, the Metros started where they left off with a very anemic offense and a porous defense. But later in the half, the offense woke up. For most of the game the Metros had been playing with long balls and crosses. Let's face it, a midget and an old man weren't going to win any of those. So they went back to the quick passing game with lots of combos and one touches, with Guevara conducting.
The obvious problem, however, was that when they did get a chance many were reluctant to shoot. And Metro depended on a very, and we say VERY, lucky penalty call that saw Gaven being stripped cleanly of the ball, but somehow getting tangled up. Guevara converted with his left side of goal shot and we went one goal closer.
After a Tony Meola brawl and a Ramon Ramirez brow cut and deep into injury time, the Metros once again were pushing up when Guevara gets taken down at about the 30 yard mark. That's when Youri Djorkaeff and Amado combined for one of the nicest goals of the year to bring the game to a tie. Off a free kick in the fourth minute of stoppage time, Djorkaeff sent a low long pass to Guevara, who spectacularly chipped it into the upper right corner to take a point for Metro.
Lineup: Meola, Ward, Suarez, Parke, Regan, Bradley, Magee, Guevara, Gaven, Djorkaeff, Galvan Rey. Subs: Ibrahim, da Silva, Quill.
