Mo's Metros collapse late in Chicago to settle for tie
October 5, 2005
It looked to be over. Up two in injury time, the MetroStars looked to have an important victory locked up. Mo Johnston would exit his first game as a winner.
It was not to be.
The Fire scored twice late, tying the match 2:2. Metro now faces an uphill climb with two games left.
Metro opened the scoring in the 21st minute after Amado Guevara found Eddie Gaven alone in the box. The youngster hit a shot inside the left post. Four minutes later, Gaven doubled the lead. This time, it was Mike Magee's turn to play setup man. Gaven received the ball in front of the box, walked inside, and slipped his second through the clueless Fire keeper.
Ante Razov, back as a Metro for the first time to the place he called home, got a stupid red in the 80th minute, but it looked like Metro would hold on. Unfortunately, first Chris Armas and then Jack Stewart made sure that the two teams would share the points.
So, two games left, two points behind Kansas City. It's not over?
Lineup: Meola, Regan, Agoos, Hernandez, Leitch, Bradley, Magee, Guevara, Gaven, Djorkaeff, Razov. Subs: Lisi, Galvan Rey, Suarez.
