The MetroStars got off to a winning start on their two-game European tour this afternoon, getting second-half goals from Steve Jolley and Mark Chung, both on assists from Tab Ramos, to beat Austrian First Division club Austria Salzburg, 2-0, in Salzburg, Austria.

The MetroStars nearly got on the board in the game's eighth minute, when forward O'Neil Peart was taken down in the penalty area and the MetroStars were awarded a penalty kick. But Salzburg goalkeeper Szabolcs Safar stopped Alex Comas' shot, and the game remained scoreless through halftime.

But in the 51st minute, Ramos lofted a free kick deep into the penalty area where Jolley leaped and headed the ball into the corner to put the MetroStars up 1-0. Chung sealed the victory in the 82nd minute, taking a feed from Ramos and blasting a left-footed shot into the far right corner of the goal to complete the scoring.

Mike Ammann played the first half of the game in goal and Tim Howard the second for the MetroStars, with each goalkeeper making three saves.

The team will travel to Munich on Friday for three days of sightseeing, including an invitation to watch a German First Division game between Hertha Berlin and Munich 1860 on Saturday, before concluding their tour with a match against F.C. Cologne in Troisdorf on Tuesday.
