Media Day with Blake Camp and Joe Vide
March 28, 2006
MetroFanatic: You guys seem to be at the fringe of the team at this moment. You think you'll have a regular spot on this team?
Joe Vide: It's hard to stay, I don't think anybody on this team wants to make any predictions. But I would like to say I'm optimistic, for myself and for the team, and I think this will be a great year.
Blake Camp: I think that coming in as a rookie, you don't want to stand out that much. Myself not being not highly touted coming out of college, you just want to learn from the players that are here, like Youri and Amado. You just want to come out and work hard as you can every day, and hopefully coach will see you working hard. Play when you have the chance, do as well as you can.
MF: You played against each other in the ACC for a few years, but now you're teammates. How does that feel?
BC: Joe is a good guy. We hate playing together.
JV: (laughs)
MF: You are both in central midfield, so you lined up against each other?
JV: It's good, you recognize him and you talk to him a little bit, but now that he's here, and we're probably gonna live in together. But I didn't mind, because we always beat Duke.
BC: Maybe not always. It's exciting to be a part of a new team, and to be part of something that is groundbreaking, it's good to share it with a group of young guys coming in, we can actually build something that lasts and is successful.
MF: Blake, Billy Walsh, ex-Metro, called you the steal on the draft.
BC: It's a matter of opinion. A lot of people think highly of me, some people don't. It's my job to go out there and prove myself every day in practice. As far as being a rookie, playing time or that. I don't think any team wants to player that doesn't go out and work hard and expect to do the best and try and learn, whether it be a starting spot or playing time. My goal is to do the best I can, and if that puts me on the field, I'll be happy.
MF: For those who haven't watched a lot of college, where in the midfield do you play?
BC: It's really up in the air, it's still preseason. I'm probably gonna assume or more defensive role, which will be a little different from what I played in college, but I'm ready for anything.
JV: For me, probably start of on either of the outside midfield positions, left or right. No problem on both sides. But I always played in the middle, so hopefully I have a chance to play there. I prefer to be more of a defensive mid, but we'll see.
