The New York Red Bull Reserves defeated the New England Revolution Reserves 3-2 at Giants Stadium. Jordan Cila gave the Red Bulls an early lead in the 23rd minute, taking a pass from Thiago Martins and hitting a 25yd shot into the upper left hand corner, beating a diving Doug Warren. The Red Bulls doubled their lead early in the second half when Mike Magee converted a penalty kick awarded in the 58th minute when New England keeper Doug Warren took down Thiago Martins in the box after Martins had dribbled by him.
New England cut the lead in hald when rookie Willie Sims headed home a Tony Lochhead cross in the 75th minute. Lochhead hit a cross from the left flank and Sims cut into the box heading the ball past Red Bulls goalkeeper Jon Conway. 67th minute New England substitution TJ Tomasso brought the Revs even in the 83rd minute beating Conway with a right footed shot after a scramble in the box.
New York took the lead for good 3 minutes later when Mike Magee crossed a ball from the left corner and it was put home by a diving Thiago Martins. New England had one final chance in stoppage time, Willie Sims found himself alone in front of the goal with the ball, but Jon Conway made a phenomenal game winning save as he knocked the point blank shot over the bar securing the 3-2 New York victory.
