Austrian Markus Schopp on trial

Could the Salzburg connections finally come through? Markus Schopp, a 32-year-old right-sided midfielder who spent last year with the Red Donkeys' sister club, is on trial with New York. In his lone year with Salzburg, Schopp played in 31 games, scoring six goals. He has also played for Strum Graz, Brescia in Italy, and Hamburg in Germany. Schopp was capped 56 times for Austria, scoring six goals, and was part of his country's 1998 World Cup squad.
In other player news, Dema Kovalenko practiced with the Donkeys, and his signing looks imminent. Another former DC Scum player, Shawn Kuykendall, looks to be signed to a developmental contract. Kuykendall played in a reserve match for Metro earlier this season.
