Luis Figo on top of Red Bull's wish list
October 3, 2006
It looks like Red Bull is serious about getting a superstar to play in New York next year. Amid the infatuation with Ronaldo, speculation about David Beckham, and casual flirting with Christian Vieri, it looks like Luis Figo has risen if not to the top, then close to it, of Red Bull's wish list, MetroFanatic has learned. The Portuguese international, currently with Inter Milan after years with Real Madrid, captained his country at this summer's World Cup.
Earlier this year, Figo has been quoted as saying: "When I was in the States on tour with Real Madrid in spring of '05, it was my first time there and I really liked it. For my own experience and for my family, I think it would be nice to play in Los Angeles or New York. If I have the chance or the invitation to go to America, I'd have to seriously consider it. I have talked with my family about it and they have agreed to do it."
Meanwhile, the Beckham rumors and the $100 million price tag continue to pop up in Europe, but it is very likely that Metro would have to fight the Galaxy for his MLS rights if he does decide to make the move.
