November 22, 2006 (Official Press Release)
Red Bull New York announced today that through yesterday's Major League Soccer Waiver Draft, they have acquired former Colorado Rapids defender Eric Denton. The Red Bulls also placed defenders Peter Canero and Steve Jolley, midfielder Chris Henderson and goalkeeper Tony Meola on waivers.
Denton, 28, saw significant playing time with the Rapids during his two seasons there, featuring in a combined 53 games and recording one goal and seven assists. A left-sided defender, who has also played in the midfield in the past, the Santa Clara University graduate enjoyed stints with Columbus, Tampa Bay and D.C. United prior to joining Colorado.
Out of the four Red Bulls who were waived, Henderson and Meola both saw the most playing time for the New York this season. Henderson scored three goals and notched an assist, playing in each of New York's 32 regular season games. Meanwhile, Meola started 20 matches in-between the posts in 2006, registering a 2-9-9 record and a 1.45 goals against average.
Scotsman Peter Canero, who joined the team at the beginning of the year, saw limited time this season, featuring in nine games and starting in two. Jolley appeared in 16 games in 2006, making 10 starts in his second stint with New York.
