Regan returns as Buddle rejoins Mo
November 22, 2006 (Official Press Release)
Red Bull New York announced today that they have acquired defender Tim Regan from Toronto FC in exchange for forward Edson Buddle. Prior to the trade, Regan was drafted by Toronto FC in last Friday's 2006 MLS Expansion Draft after his former club, Chivas USA, left him unprotected.
It will be a homecoming of sorts for Regan, as prior to joining Chivas USA this past year, he was drafted by the MetroStars in the second round of the 2003 MLS SuperDraft (17th overall) and played with the club for three seasons through 2005.
"We are excited to have Tim back in New York," said Red Bull New York Sporting Director and Head Coach Bruce Arena. "Tim provides us much-needed depth to our defense and his experience gained during his career in MLS will be beneficial to us as we move forward."
Regan found consistent playing time in 2006, starting and playing in 30 games as part of Chivas USA's back line. With the MetroStars, Regan made a total of 47 regular season appearances, with his strongest year coming in 2005, when he played 20 games. Regan, 25, is a graduate of Bradley University and is originally from Orland Hills, IL.
This past season, Buddle started 24 games while appearing in 28 for the Red Bulls, tallying six goals and three assists. Prior to being acquired by New York for midfielder Eddie Gaven on March 28, 2006, Buddle played for the Columbus Crew for five years.
