Bring on 2007
January 1, 2007
Gone is Amado Guevara. Gone is Youri Djorkaeff. Gone is Tony Meola. Gone is Mark Lisi. Gone are the MetroStars.
Gone is Mo Johnston. Gone is Alexi Lalas. Gone is Eddie Gaven. Gone is Michael Bradley. Gone are the MetroStars.
Peter Canero came and went. Chris Henderson came and went. Edson Buddle came and went. Thiago Martins came and went. Adrian Serioux came and went real fast. Danny O'Rourke came and went. Jean-Phillipe Peguero came and went. Steve Jolley came back, bled, and went. The "Red Donkeys" came and went. Gone are the MetroStars.
2006 will forever be remembered as the season of change for this franchise. But while the MetroStars name is gone, the Metro spirit lives on.
Is it a spirit of constant failure? In some way. But it is also the spirit of hope. The hope for Marvell Wynne, and Josmer Altidore, and Jeff Parke, and Carlos Mendes, and Todd Dunivant, and yes, even Seth Stammler, and Dema Kovalenko, and John Wolyniec, and Mike Magee, and Tim Regan, and Jon Conway. The hope for Bruce Arena.
Bring on 2007. Metro Forever.
