At the bubble with Dave van den Bergh
February 23, 2007
MetroFanatic: Dave, how does the transition from Kansas City to New Jersey feel?
Dave van den Bergh: Good, good. The team looks good, I think we got a far better team here than I did in Kansas City last season, with the emphasis on team. I feel like we are a team, and I think with a team you can go a long way. Individuals win games, teams win championships.
MF: In of the interviews, you said that this team has much more potential than Kansas City does.
DVDB: We think we got a good mix between veteran players and a lot of talented youth players. I think everybody is willing to work very really hard for one another. I think that's key in the long season.
MF: Something that is quite amazing is that you have no accent.
DVDB: (laughs) I have one, but I try to curb it a little bit. I've been married for two and a half years now, and I've been with my wife for seven years, so she's got a good influence on my English.
MF: What was your original thinking about coming from Holland to MLS?
DVDB: I just thought it was time. Me and my wife made a decision a while ago that we wanted to raise our children here, and for me to play here. I think that it was a good decision, and I am now in a team that can play for a championship. That was the idea when I decided to come here.
MF: You scored three goals in preseason games so far. No one has seen those games, are you playing as a forward, as a winger?
DVDB: Mostly on the left in the midfield, my job is to serve some good crosses in and show up closer to the two forwards. It's gone reasonably well up to now.
