Marcelo Salas is DP rumor d'jour
April 1, 2007
If it seems that a day can't go by without another Designated Player rumor, that's because it's so often the case. Today, the name is Marcelo Salas, who, if Chilean press is to be believed, has been offered a one-year deal by RBNY.
Salas is currently unemployed, having been released in 2006 by Universidad de Chile, the same club he began his professional career. In between, he had a stint with River Plate (where he was a teammate of another Metro target, Juan Pablo Angel), and had a number of very successful years in Italy with Lazio and Juventus, before returning to the Argentine giants.
Salas scored 35 goals in 65 caps for Chile, including four in four games at the 1998 World Cup.
