Altidore gets his first for USA
February 6, 2008

Three years, nine months, and nine days ago, April 28th, 2004: the last time a Metro scored for USA, as Eddie Pope put one in injury time to beat Mexico. Until tonight, that is. Jozy Altidore, getting his first start in just his third cap, ripped a header into the Mexican net to put the Americans up 2:1 in a game that ended 2:2. Former Metros Tim Howard, Michael Bradley, Ricardo Clark, and Ramiro Corrales also played for the US.

Altidore's goal comes on the heals of SoccerByIves reporting that the youngster was dangerously close to transferring to Reading of the Premier League over the January transfer window. Thankfully, Red Bull decided to hold on to the budding star.

Hopefully, we don't have to wait another three plus years for the next Metro goal for USA.
