Salzburg's junior jackasses beat Metro 1:0

A second half goal by forward Stanislav Wasilj helped give the Red Bull Salzburg Juniors a 1-0 win over the New York Red Bulls on Monday. With the defeat, New York falls to 1-2-0 in the preseason in their first match in Austria.
The first half was a spirited affair, with both teams having chances to score. In the 4th minute, forward Juan Pablo Angel rose above his defender and nodded a Claudio Reyna free kick wide. Two minutes later, Jesus Mendoza was unmarked on the left side of the penalty box but his shot was blocked by goalkeeper Harald Planer.
Salzburg midfielder Ernst Obster presented the sternest challenge to New York goalkeeper Jon Conway. In the 21st minute, Conway was forced to parry away an Obster left-footed shot. Then, five minutes from the break, Obster unleashed a powerful 20-yard shot that Conway pushed over the bar.
Obster had the game's best chance up to that point just a minute after the half. With space at the top of the box, Obster launched a shot that beat goalkeeper Zach Thornton and slammed off the underside of the crossbar before it was cleared by the New York defense.
Salzburg broke through in the 70th minute. After Salzburg won a free kick from 30 yards out, Richard Kitzbichler swung a ball into the box that was flicked on by Wasilj and bounced inside the far post and into the back of the net.
New York went a man down in the 79th minute when John Wolyniec was given a red card. Three minutes later, New York almost equalized when Sinisa Ubiparipovic floated a ball towards Jerrod Laventure, whose header went straight at the goalkeeper.
