Four developmental players signed, Cepero re-signed

Red Bull New York announced today that Major League Soccer has signed midfielders Danleigh Borman and Kevin Mesa, goalkeepers Danny Cepero and Caleb Patterson-Sewell and defender John Gilkerson to developmental contracts to play for the Red Bulls.
Borman was drafted by the Red Bulls out of the University of Rhode Island in the first round (7th overall) in the 2008 MLS Supplemental Draft. The Cape Town, South Africa native, who will count as an international on the Red Bulls' roster, was on the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team after finishing the year with one goal and seven assists. During his time at URI, Borman accumulated seven goals, 16 assists while playing in 83 games. On the international level, Borman has been called up to the U-19 South African National Team.
Mesa joined the Red Bulls on trial in late January 2008. The Queens, NY, product was most recently with the Red Bulls Under-20 squad and has trained with Switzerland first division side, FC Schaffhausen in 2006 and Sparta Prague in 2005. In 2007, Mesa also trained with several clubs in Colombia including Deportivo Cali and Millonarios.
Cepero, who is in his second year with the Red Bulls, joined the team via the 2007 MLS Supplemental Draft in the fourth round (46th overall) from the University of Pennsylvania. The Baldwin, NY, native played in eight games for the Red Bulls in the MLS Reserve League, starting in three. Cepero posted a 1.00 goals against average and earned a 3-2-0 record.
Patterson-Sewell, joins the Red Bulls after spending the past year with the Cleveland City Stars of the United Soccer League's Second Division. He has also played in the second division of the Australian League and was part of the Sheffield Wednesday Youth Academy. The 6-3, 200-pound goalkeeper from Gatton, Australia, started to train with New York in February.
Gilkerson was selected by New York in the third round (35th overall) in the 2008 MLS Supplemental Draft. The Winthrop University standout was named to the All-Big South First Team for his junior and senior year and in 2006, he was named to the NSCAA/adidas All-South Atlantic Region Team. Gilkerson has also played for the Hampton Roads Piranhas (PDL).
